Surfing Fiji this week
Well all that are tuned in, what a week!!!!
The biggest swell since the CT at cloud break last
year arrived this week and it was amazing!!!! We had
solid waves all week from tuesday onwards!!! we had
a nice BBQ at plantation island on the monday and
a great couple of sessions in the morning and afternoon
at desperations!!!!
Then came Tuesday and the swell!!!
After checking the swell bouys and informing everyone, some
decided to surf natadola inside reef (which needs
a solid swell to break!!!!) if you have a look at
the photo's and are in the no you will no that this
was a solid swell as the reef was serving up some
good sized waves and the beach coming through with
a huge shore break!!!!!
Another boat was taken out to check the swell onthe
outer reef at wilkes etc. WOOOOwwwwww it was massive
i have never seen naumotu lefts and wilkes breaking
so close together with the swell coming through the
entrance like it was going to break!!!! wilkes was
just out of control with us rescuing two unwothy patrons
from the water that had not obviously watched the
swell for long enough as there were some huge, im
talking mountain like waves coming through out wide
that cleaned them up and snapped there leashes!!!
RESPECT is all i can say you are out there in mother
natures realm all she asks is some respect!!!
Anyway we had the oppurtunity to go and tow at Naumotu
lefts after we watched the staff from the island towing
and as there were no guests willing to have a tow
or paddle we were asked if we wanted a go,ARE YOU
JOKING????? As the pictures of the left handers show
it was a nice fun size but what an experience!!!
We then headed out to check Cloud break out and Saw
shane dorian being towed into the biggest barrel let
alone wave i have ever seen!!!! you could have fitted
a house in there!!!!!!!
Anyway the next day was huge also and the crew surfed
on the inside of wilkes and there was only 3 sitting
on the outside peak with huge clean waves coming through!!!!Some
huge freight training waves bombing through what a
thrill to be paddling in lucky i had my 6'10"
i needed every inch!!!!
The next day was still solid with milk pond conditions
and only three which reduced to one on the outside
bombie!!!it was solid with the occasional freak set
coming through to show who was boss and keep the respect
in check!!!Good waves anyway!!!
Friday unfortunatley saw an early trade blow and a
crowd out at wilkes we were the first there and had
a few alright waves but the conditions were not optimum!!!!
still a little size coming through though!!!
Another swell push coming through next week which
should keep us on our toes but nothing like we have
just had which is unfortunate should be good waves!!!!!!
Peace to all
